Significance of Branch: It is one of the primitive branches of which have remained always in demand and continue to be in the future. Mechanical Engineering, the broadest of all disciplines deals with the design and production of tools, machines and all other Mechanical Engineering equipment to be used in industries. Mechanical Engineering is concerned with all types of machinery in industries and all aspects of their mechanism and functioning; the design, development, construction, production, installation, operation and maintenance.
Career Opportunities: Mechanical Engineers has always been needed as essential staff personnel in various industries of both the public and private sector. As the Industrial sector has drastically risen in pace, the need for more Mechanical Engineers has increased exponentially. Every manufacturing and production industry needs Mechanical Engineers to carry out jobs efficiently and flawlessly for their companies.
The Department: The Department of Mechanical Engineering was started in the year 2010 and this institute with an intake capacity 60 at present the department was set up keeping in view of the increasing demand of the industry and is able to fulfil the same. In this department, all the laboratories are fully furnished with tools and equipment having the latest state of technology.
At present the department is equipped with the following laboratories:
- Mechanics of Solid lab
- Fluid mechanics & Hydraulic Machines lab
- OOP using Java Lab
- Kinematics & Dynamics of machines laboratory
- Thermal Engineering Lab
- Introduction to physical metallurgy & engineering materials laboratory
- Refrigeration & Air-conditioning lab
- Auto CAD lab
- Production & operation management lab
General Workshop / Laboratory:-
The market for the general workshop has got wide scope due to the fast growth of industrialization, especially in the service sector. Spares for automobile parts, machine parts, etc can be manufactured. Repair & maintenance jobs for household items can be taken for welding, sheet metal fabrication, carpentry works etc.
Different Shops available in the central workshop are as follows:
1. Fitting Shop
2. Welding Shop
3. Machine Shop (Turning, Milling, Drilling, Grinding, Cutting etc)
4. Blacksmith
5. Carpentry
Different Jobs Prepared in Central Workshop are:
Fitting Job: Prepare one job on male-female fitting
Welding Job: Preparation of single V butt joint by electric arc welding
Turning job: Prepare one job with plain turning, step turning & knurling & thread cutting

SSSC Lathe: 4 ½’’, Radial drill machine, Milling Machine Universal type, Drill machine, drill machine bench type, hydraulic Power Saw, Slotting Machine, bench Grinder, Wood Lathe, Wood Thickness Planer, Band Saw, Carpentry Vice, Bench Vice, Welding Transformers-400amp, Anvil with stand, Swage Block, Forging Health with Motor Blower and also sufficient marking, measuring, cutting, stricking Hand tools are available.
