METALLURGY ENGINEERING

Metallurgical Engineering is a domain of materials science and engineering that studies the physical and chemical behavior of metallic elements, their inter-metallic compounds, and their mixtures, which are called alloys. Metallurgy is used to separate metals from their ore.

Metallurgical Engineers extract, refine and recycle metals. They solve problems such as reducing corrosion, maintaining heat levels and increasing the strength of the product. They help develop or improve metals that are used in healthcare, transportation, defense and entertainment industry.

Significance of Branch :
Metallurgical is a broad field that deals with all sorts of metal-related areas. Metallurgical engineers develop ways of processing metals and converting them into useful products. The three main branches of this major are physical metallurgy, extractive metallurgy and mineral processing. Metallurgical engineers are employed in many industries and work for companies that refine, produce, manufacture and distribute metals.

Career Opportunities :
Metallurgical has a wide scope. Because metals are used in so many industries, employment can be in large companies or small consulting firms. There are lots of companies in India doing metallurgy business for example all steel companies offer jobs to Metallurgical students. Metallurgical has a wide scope because it is a specialization field, basically metallurgy is science and technology of metals and materials, after four year you may get excellent job or you may go further for M.S or M.TECH. The main benefit of this branch is that very few seats available in the India. So excellent and bright future is there in metallurgical.

Scope of Metallurgical Engineering:

It’s a wide field that offers lot of opportunities for young graduates. Metallurgical engineers can seek employment in metal and metal extraction companies. They can also opt for teaching positions in universities and colleges. A metallurgical engineer can take up any of the following profiles like Researcher, Metallurgist, Welding Engineer, Plant Equipment Engineer, Ballistics Engineer, Quality Planning Engineer, Senior Process Engineer, Metallurgical R&D Lab Technician.

The Department :
The department of Metallurgical was started in the year 2010 with an intake capacity 60 at present.. The department has following Laboratories.

At present the department is equipped with the following laboratories:

Materials Processing Lab
Mechanical Engineering Lab-1
Mineral Processing Lab
Testing of Material Lab
Mineral Processing Lab
